Financing and operational savings
The purchase of the BBC 1 Plus building will cost the state 56.4 million euros, with financing coming from two sources: 46.2 million euros will be covered by the Recovery and Resilience Plan and the remaining 9.5 million euros from the state budget. Choosing BBC 1 Plus will bring up to 40% lower operating costs compared to cheaper alternatives, which will significantly reduce building management expenses in the long term.
Additional investments of 0.9 million euros will ensure the necessary technical modifications, as well as a shelving system for the archive, so that the building meets all the requirements of the courts. With this step, the Ministry will provide the courts with not only efficient but also modern space for their daily operations.
Long-term savings and release of current premises
After the courts move into BBC 1 Plus, it will be possible to cancel the rental premises on Medená Street, saving the state 0.6 million euros per year. In addition, three state-owned buildings will be vacated, one of which the Bratislava Administrative Court plans to use after reconstruction. The other two buildings are still awaiting a final decision on their future use.
Discussion on the symbolism of court buildings
Although BBC 1 Plus offers an efficient and modern solution, some experts wonder whether such an important institution as the court should not have its own representative building. Courts, as an important part of state power, can symbolize the values and stability of the country through their architecture. According to critics, placing the courts in a regular administrative building reduces this symbolic aspect.
The relocation of the Bratislava III and IV city courts to the BBC 1 Plus building brings a practical, modern and economically advantageous solution. Investment in high-quality court infrastructure reflects the state's efforts to efficiently manage public resources, but at the same time raises questions about the architectural and symbolic expression of public institutions.
